An early grounding in many craft skills led John to his first career in the sign industry, where he worked on Perspex shop fronts as well as pub signs. A later opportunity to work alongside a craftsman making wooden dolls developed his taste and passion for woodturning, a craft he has pursued ever since.

More recently his sign work has focused exclusively on the use of wood, making signs for Countryside Management. In his craft work the two elements of signage and turned wood have combined, resulting in his lettered bowls. John’s carved bowls are a further development of this, and are based on traditionally inspired designs.
