After training in Woven Textiles at West Surrey College of Art & Design, Farnham, in the 1970s, David worked as a craftsman in several hand-weaving workshops. After many years in other work, he is now weaving again, specialising in flat-weave floor rugs. Designs principally arise from the inherent structures of weaves such as twills, and from shaft-switching techniques. Sources of inspiration include traditional ethnic carpets, other textiles and geometric patterns. Although rarely identical, rugs can be repeated in similar or different colourways. Commissions for specific situations welcome. All the rugs illustrated here are woven with a twill weave and have a 100% linen warp and a weft of 80% wool / 20% nylon carpet yarn. david@handweaver.co.uk |
