David England

Born in Old Hill, the Black country, Staffordshire in 1954.

No formal art training but started exhibiting in Liverpool in the seventies and then in South Wales when I moved there in the eighties and started making greeting cards as a principle form of income.

Regular show from 1990 onwards in the Marches and several large exhibitions involving installations including Messengers (about angels) at Machynlleth and Just go straight on (about the life and work of Alfred Watkins) at Hereford Art Gallery with two other members of the Hereford Waldorf School.

My wife and I moved to Hereford to be near the school and the community that comes with the Waldorf package – a wonderful sharing with like-minded individuals that does much for the creative process as far as I'm concerned.

I still paint but most of my output seems to be geared towards stone carving nowadays. I still work with Class X each year, just after their exams, and we all make a stone head down in the lovely outdoor workspace among the willows in the bottom field of the school.

I'm drawn to a style of art that wants to explore the forms that have been around before language gave them names.
